ABOUT

Picture
After a profound birth experience, my emerging passion and mission is learning how to assist, care for, and honor the needs of laboring women and mothers.  Birth is a life affirming act, a challenge, and a privilege and my goal is to help a woman harness her inner power and spirit during this intense moment as well as to provide support during the special time leading up to and following the birth of her child.

A native of Charlottesville, Virginia, I graduated from the University of Virginia in 2007 with a B.A. in English Language and Literature.  Since then I have taught preschool, worked at a local artisan bakery, and given birth to a beatific baby girl.  Currently, my husband and I are raising our spirited (ok, wild) little one right outside of town in the Blue Ridge foothills.

In July 2010, I began my doula certification thanks to a scholarship through ICEA (International Childbirth Education Association) and have participated in and observed two childbirth education series in Charlottesville (UVa and MJH).  I workshopped  in July 2011 through the organization toLabor (formerly known as ALACE), and am doing a tandem certification with both organizations.  In addition, I am in the process of assisting women who desire doula support on as part of my certification.  By Fall 2011, I will be a certified professional doula with ICEA.  By Spring 2012, I will be a certified professional doula with toLabor.

In the meantime, if you are seeking labor support, I am offering services for a reduced fee as a means towards becoming certified and because you are assisting me by allowing me to share in your birth experience.   Giving birth is a milestone in a woman's life and I am here to provide support and education as you and yours move into a new phase of your lives together.
